Bill Ackman pushes 3 retailers to get directly involved in the coronavirus vaccination campaign in the United States
Bill Ackman, the famous activist investor who founded and runs Pershing Square, has some thoughts on how the United States can bring the coronavirus outbreak under control. In a tweet that garnered quite a bit of attention, Ackman wrote that Target (NYSE: TGT), Walmart (NYSE: WMT), and Kroger (NYSE: KR) should be directly and fully involved in the distribution and administration of vaccines.
“Why not.@Target. @Walmart. @kroger become our vaccine distribution centers, ”he wrote. “They have large parking lots, trained Rx staff and weekly customer visits. Outdoor shots would minimize the risk and encourage suspicious customers to get one. Every day we expect more deaths and the risk of the variant increases. “
Inoculations on parking lots are not unusual with coronavirus vaccines, as mass vaccination is the goal. Some companies have used their large car parks for this purpose, although often an exterior part provides the shots.
Before the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared the two vaccines currently in circulation – Moderna‘s mRNA-1273 and Pfizer/BioNTech‘s BNT162b2 – many companies have used their parking lots for coronavirus testing. Many of these facilities, such as those operated by Rite Help, are always used for this purpose.
Nowadays, municipal authorities requisition large public or semi-public properties for vaccination purposes. In Los Angeles, for example, the grounds of the Forum arena are currently used as a vaccine delivery site for those who qualify for an injection.
As a perennial gadfly in the market, not to mention a very wealthy one, Ackman attracts a lot of attention. What he says is absolutely correct, so it’s possible that at least one of the trios mentioned could step in to lend the needed help.
So far, neither Target, Walmart, nor Kroger have officially responded to Ackman’s tweet.
