Marilyn Stueven, 83, of Grand Island, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 at CHI-St. François medical center.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 11 at the Phillips Methodist Church. Pastor Peter Jenks will officiate. Visitations will take place one hour before the church service. Memories can be made to the family to appoint at a later date. The Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is taking care of the arrangements. Marilyn Marie Stueven, daughter of Alvin Wesley and Dorothy Pearl (Arnett) Purdy, was born in Phillips on June 1, 1938 and died on Grand Island on November 8, 2021, at the age of 83.
Marilyn grew up in Phillips and graduated from Phillips High School in 1955 and Grand Island Business College in 1957. Marilyn worked at Grand Island Finance, was a cashier at Fonner Park and oversaw the kitchen for over 20 years at the Saddle Club .
Marilyn was married to Dale Stueven on July 21, 1975. They had taken up residence in Grand Island and had been married for 46 years.
Marilyn loved to cook, tinker, decorate for the holidays, especially making Christmas candies. She loved NASCAR, reading, collecting cans and cans. Marilyn loved her dog, her cats and all animals in general. Purple was her favorite color, and a lot of her favorite things were this color.
She was predeceased by her parents and nephew, Chuck Purdy.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband, Dale of Grand Island; 7 children, Rex (Carrie) Dawkins from Grand Island, Richard (Paris) Stueven from Zimmerman, MN, Robert Dawkins from Fullerton, Sandra (Dale) Price from Hastings, Matt (Ida) Stueven from Grand Island, Susan (Brian) Gardner from Sidney, IA and Marci Stueven and Clyde Cook of Aurora; 7 grandchildren, Jessica Green, Leslie Green, Jami LaForge, Jacob Koehn, Brianna Lancaster, Allen Dawkins and Wyatt Stueven; 3 step-grandchildren, Matt Price, Ashley Gardner and Tyler Gardner and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two brothers, Darrell (Phyllis) Purdy of Aurora and Eldon (Jane) Purdy of Omaha and other family members and friends.
