Obituary of Leslie Laumeyer (1941 – 2021) – Mystic, CT
The second of eight children to the late Earl and Loretta Laumeyer, Les grew up in St. Charles, Missouri, and graduated from St. Charles High School. After graduating from high school in 1959, Les joined the US Air Force where he particularly enjoyed his time in Okinawa and Cape Cod.
Les was an extremely hardworking person and took pride in never missing a day of work. He joined the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in Boston, Mass., And spent most of his career working for AT&T. Les retired from Lucent Technologies in 1999 as CFO.
Les had a passion for learning and zealously pursued his various interests. Reading, golfing, biking, gardening, music, painting, photography, fly fishing and cheering on his favorite sports teams were just a few of his many hobbies. Les was a past president of the Seniors Golf Association at the H. Smith Richardson Golf Course in Fairfield. The family has endless memories of vacationing on their beloved Cape Cod, flying kites and walking the dunes. He loved to laugh and was always up for a prank, a joke or a game of cards. He really enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Les was a dedicated parishioner to Our Lady of the Assumption in Fairfield and Saint Patrick’s Church in Mystic and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in both churches.
Les received a kidney transplant in 1996. He and his family have been eternally grateful for this wonderful gift. Les has faced many health issues over the past 15 years, but has always been able to persevere without complaint. The family deeply appreciates the many friends and caregivers who have always been there with support and guidance.
They will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lorraine; and their three daughters, Kristine Burrichter (Michael) of Lawrence, Kan., Laura McBride (Thomas) of Mystic and Amy McNamara (Kyle) of Alexandria, Virginia; her nine cherished grandchildren, Joshua Burrichter, Jack Burrichter, Rachel Burrichter, Sarah Burrichter, Faith McBride, T. Quinn McBride, Charlotte McNamara, Patrick McNamara and W. Finn McNamara.
They are survived by her brothers, Robert Laumeyer of Brentwood, Tenn., Thomas Laumeyer of St. Charles, Mo., Gerald Laumeyer of Florence, Miss., And Michael Laumeyer of Bradenton, Florida. He is also survived by his only sister, Barbara Caleca of Sun City, Florida.
Les was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Loretta Laumeyer; and brothers, Donald Laumeyer and James Laumeyer.
Call hours will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 2 at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, December 3 at St. Patrick’s Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic. His funeral will take place in private after mass.
