Panama’s Scientology Volunteer Ministers and Their Interfaith Pandemic Assistance
With the easing of restrictions related to COVID-19 and the reopening of places of worship, volunteers from the Mission of the Church of Scientology of Panama have reached out to many religious communities across the country to protect parishioners.
PANAMA CITY, Panama, November 2, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Panama canceled restrictions on attendance at places of worship. And the parishioners of the many religious communities across the country eagerly awaited the services and fellowship of their churches, mosques and temples. But they did so with apprehension. Was it safe to meet with their congregations? Volunteer Ministers of the Church of Scientology Mission of Panama, trained in the most advanced sanitation and disinfection protocols, has helped keep dozens of religious institutions safe.

A team of Scientologists was formed on the same protocols used by the Freewind Volunteer Ministers, the Church of Scientology Sailors Religious Retreat, and the Humanitarian Ship. The Freewinds was moored Aruba when the pandemic was announced and the borders closed. Their work to protect the island nation is featured on an interactive timeline on the Scientology website.
In May, the volunteer ministers of Panama completed training on the use of these protocols and started raising awareness.
One of their first projects was the remediation of a Catholic school, misting 100 rooms over some 5,500 square meters. Next, a Catholic orphanage cared for 17 children from infants to 10 years old, soon followed by two homes for the elderly, a home for indigenous girls and a boarding school for 28 underprivileged children. They continued with other similar facilities and also trained members of the local Red Cross section in these protocols.
Next, volunteer ministers disinfected dozens of Catholic and Evangelical churches, a Catholic cathedral, and the Baha’i Temple of Panama City.
The Ministry of Public Security has decided to organize Las Estrellas de Colón, an annual football competition: 132 teams of more than 1,500 disadvantaged children aged 9 to 13 compete for the championship. Volunteer ministers disinfected the stadium and the buses carrying the children. And each young athlete received a How To Behave booklet and the others upon entering the stadium.
In fact, wherever the volunteer ministers went, they shared the materials available through the Church of Scientology’s How to Stay Healthy online resource center: dozens of pamphlets and public service announcements, graphics and panels, explaining the basics of prevention in simple terms in 17 languages, including Spanish, all available free on the Scientology website.
The mission of the Church of Scientology Panama opened in 2019 and achieved religious recognition in the country. Freewinds’ religious retreat work is featured in the interactive timeline and in an episode of Inside Scientology on the Scientology Network.
The founder of the Scientology religion is L. Ron hubbard. Sir. David Miscavige is the ecclesiastical head of religion.
