Vatican court reindicts 4 in London property deal – English

(ANSA) – ROME, JANUARY 25 – A Vatican court on Tuesday re-indicted four defendants for mishandling Holy See finances in the purchase of a London property on Sloane Avenue and ordered their case to be joined with that of six more from February. 18.
All four are Mons. Mauro Carlino, former secretary to Cardinal Angelo Becciu, financier Raffaele Mincione, lawyer Nicola Squillace and Vatican official Fabrizio Tirabassi.
On November 19, Bishop Alberto Perlasca was cleared of corruption in the controversial and allegedly inflated real estate deal.
The former official of the Vatican Secretariat of State did not knowingly participate in the “numerous fraudulent operations proven by the office of the promoter of justice”, said Vatican judge Paolo Papanti Pelletier.
On October 6, a Vatican court dropped the case against Cardinal Becciu, the highest ranking Catholic cleric ever charged with financial crimes.
Becciu, who resigned in 2020 as prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, has been accused of embezzlement and abuse of power when he was the Vatican‘s substitute secretary of state.
