Willis “WC / Dub” Hope
December 13, 1933 – October 20, 2021
Concord, NC – Willis “WC / Dub” Hope, 87, of Concord, died on October 20, 2021.
Mr. Hope was born December 13, 1933 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Son of the late William Christopher Hope and the late Grace West Hope. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Torrence Hope and Alva Hope; as well as sisters Edith Seavers, Dorothy Wood, Ruby Smith, Aline Barefoot and Betty Wood.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Kennedy Hope; daughter, Nerissa Hope Nelson and husband, Mitch of Monroe, North Carolina; daughter, Christie Hope Chadborn & husband, Barry of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Donald Nelson (wife, Julie), Jason Nelson (wife, Ashley) and Cameron Chadborn; and great-grandchildren, Rylie Nelson, Addisyn Nelson, Judah Nelson, Angel Nelson, Sky Nelson and Pearce Nelson.
Willis “WC / Dub” attended Charlotte Technical High School and Central Piedmont Community College. He proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany from 1957 to 1959 and in the reserves until 1963. He was married to Miriam Crawford Hope Dye in 1959 and this union produced his two girls.
WC / Dub was a North Carolina State building contractor for over 23 years. His second career took him to The Home Depot in 1992, where he held the position of Professional District Sales Manager until his retirement in 2010. While at The Home Depot, Dub worked as a lobbyist for the House. representatives and the United States Senate for the construction industry. . Other accomplishments include his work with the NARI (National Association of the Remoulding Industry) where Dub served as Regional Vice President and was honored as the first recipient of the NARI Hope Award established in his name: for professionalism and commitment to the remodeling industry.
Mr. Hope was a member of the Whiting Avenue Baptist Church in North Charlotte, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and deacon president, as well as a member of the finance committee. He was also a member of the Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte. WC / Dub was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dub never met a stranger and could hold a conversation with anyone, no matter where they were from. He always liked to start his story from the very beginning, whether it was about his life or his health. A special thank you to all of the friends, family and caregivers who took the time to listen.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, October 24 with visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by a service at 1:30 p.m. at the Broadus Baptist Church, 59 Green St. SW, Concord. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte at 3:00 p.m.
