Winston H. Frankson, 95, of 3026 Garfield Road, formerly of 3167 Burton Road, died Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at his home.
A native of Jamestown, he was born March 2, 1926, the son of the late Carl and Neva Zeigler Frankson.
He was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School.
A WWII veteran in the US Army Air Corps, he served overseas in the Pacific Theater.
He owned and operated Peterson Corn Crib Candies from 1977 until his retirement in 1990 when his son took over the business.
He was a communicant of St. Apostle Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he served as usher and member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. His other memberships include United Commercial Travelers, 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and its Color Corps, VFW Post 53, American Legion Post 777 and founding and life member of AMVETS Post 1996 where he served on the executive committee, committee of the house, as financial officer, member of the guard of honor and of the Stage Door canteen troop. In addition, he was a member of Busti-Lakewood Golden Agers, Busti Historical Society, and prior to entering service, was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.
He was active with the Boy Scouts for many years as an Assistant Master Scout, Master Scout and later taught outdoor cooking to adults. He loved the outdoors, spending time hunting deer and fishing for trout.
The survivors are his 16-year-old partner Romaine Gustafson; son Gary (Joy) Frankson of Verona, VA; daughter Mary Ann (Jerry) Johnson of West Ellicott; stepdaughter Chris Frankson of Jamestown; three granddaughters Andrea Blew of Falconer, Sarah (John) Gauger of Lynchburg, VA and Jennifer (Dave) Bretch of Painted Post, NY; nine great-grandchildren Steven and Deven Lamb, John Paul, Jack and Wills Gauger and Nathan, Daniel, Michael and Cara Bretch and one sister Kathy (Duane) Westerberg of Frostproof, FL.
Besides his parents, his first wife, Margaret Reinfried Frankson, retired him in 1981; his second wife Marilyn Hillerby Frankson in 2006; a son Stephen Frankson a brother Wallace Frankson and a sister Donna Town.
A Christian burial mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the parish of Saint-Apôtre, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Lind Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
